['vaɪəkɔm ɪn'kɔːpəreɪtɪd], weltweit tätiger amerikanischer Medienkonzern, gegründet 1970 als Tochtergesellschaft der CBS Inc., Sitz: New York. Die Aktienmehrheit (rd. 67 %) wird seit 1987 von der Kinokette National Amusements Inc. (S. M. Redstone) gehalten. 1994 übernahm Viacom Inc. die Aktienmehrheit der Paramount Communications und die Videothekenkette Blockbuster Entertainment Group. Im September 1999 kündigten Viacom Inc. und CBS Corp. (Columbia Broadcasting System Inc.) ihre Fusion an, die bis Mai 2000 vollzogen wurde. Geschäftsbereiche sind Hörfunk- und Fernsehstationen (u. a. MTV, VH1, Nickelodeon, Pay-TV Showtime Networks, das CBS-Network, Kabelfernsehsender BET Black Entertainment Television, Rundfunkgesellschaft Infinity Broadcasting Corp.), Produktion und Distribution von Film- und Fernsehprogrammen, Video und Musik/Themenparks (Paramount) sowie Buchverlage. Umsatz (2001): 23,2 Mrd. US-$; Beschäftigte: rd. 127 000. (Medienkonzern)
